Investor's Guide

Vinifera: The Full Picture

What the platform is, how it is built, what it costs to operate, and where it is going — written for owners, investors, and committed stakeholders.

Part 1

The Problem Vinifera Solves

Every winery that sells wine directly to consumers through a club membership faces the same operational headache. Members sign up, pay a recurring fee, and receive curated wine shipments several times a year. The winery must manage who those members are, what they bought, where they live, when their next shipment goes out, whether their credit card on file works, and why some of them quietly disappear after eighteen months.

Most wineries today manage this through legacy software built a decade ago — software designed for the era before smartphones, before machine learning, and before customers expected the same seamless digital experience from their wine club that they get from Netflix or Amazon. The result is operational friction that costs wineries real money.

The documented failure pattern: Billing errors. Shipments to outdated addresses. Members who intended to cancel but would have stayed if someone had reached out at the right moment. A member portal so difficult to use that members call the tasting room instead of helping themselves.

The market has known about these problems for years. A handful of established platforms — Commerce7, WineDirect, OrderPort, vinSUITE — have built real businesses serving this need. Some of them are good. None has solved the full problem. Commerce7, the current market leader, launched an AI churn prediction feature in June 2026. It is a start. But it lives in a separate dashboard, requires a separate login, and does not connect to the communications or loyalty tools operators need to act on what the AI tells them.

That gap — the distance between knowing a member is at risk and having the tools to save them, all in a single place — is what Vinifera was built to close.

Part 2

What Vinifera Is

Vinifera is a web-based platform for wine club management. It targets small to mid-size wineries — producers making between 500 and 5,000 cases per year, selling directly to consumers through a recurring membership program.

The name comes from Vitis vinifera, the Latin species name for the primary wine grape vine. It signals domain knowledge to winery operators and reads as a premium brand word, without the overused "wine" prefix that defines most platform names in this market.

At its core, Vinifera is two things delivered as one product.

For Staff

Administration Portal

The tool winery staff use every day. Handles member records, shipment processing, billing, club tier configuration, email communications, compliance, and analytics — all in one interface.

For Members

Member Portal

The self-service interface wine club members see. Preview shipments, update addresses, swap bottles, pause membership, update payment — with magic-link login. No password required.

Why magic link? The documented failure mode on competing platforms is that their member portals work on paper and fail in practice — members forget passwords, revert to phone calls. Vinifera eliminates passwords entirely: enter your email, receive a secure one-click link, and you are in.

Part 3

The Features, Explained

Vinifera organizes its capabilities into thirteen functional areas. A fully functional working prototype of all thirteen already exists — every screen, every interaction, and every data visualization is built and working. Here is what each area does.

Current status: The prototype runs in any web browser, is optimized for mobile phones and tablets, and demonstrates every major workflow. It is not yet connected to live data or payments — that is Phase 2 of the production build.

Dashboard

KPI tiles, AI Churn Watch panel with per-member risk scores, monthly revenue chart, and payment recovery queue — all on one screen.

Members / CRM

Searchable member records with order history, lifetime value, churn risk score, and full communication log per member.

Shipments

Live release processing: payment status, decline recovery queue, address validation flags, and automatic retry logic.

Analytics

Revenue trends, cohort retention, tier performance, and geographic member distribution — all interactive and exportable.

Club Tiers

Configure as many membership tiers as needed, each with its own pricing, included bottles, frequency, and upgrade paths.

Allocations

Invite-only allocation lists, per-member bottle limits, release embargo dates, and a waitlist for non-invited members.

Release Schedule

Calendar view of all club releases with processing dates, included tiers, and automated member notification timing.

Fulfillment

Pick-list generation, scan-to-confirm pack station workflow, UPS/FedEx/GLS label creation, and tracking log.

Communications

Automated email triggers (pre-shipment, payment decline, welcome, birthday) and one-time campaign sends to any segment.

Loyalty

Points awarded on shipments, event attendance, and referrals. Redeemable against upcoming shipments. Full ledger in member portal.

Integrations

Klaviyo, Mailchimp, QuickBooks, ShipCompliant, Avalara, Google Analytics, Meta, and Stripe — all with connection status panels.

Settings & Audit Log

Role-based staff permissions, billing config, API key management, and a tamper-evident audit log of every action taken.

Part 4

The Technology, in Plain Language

Understanding what powers Vinifera requires no computer science background. Here is how each component fits together, described by what it does rather than what it is called.

Interface

React + Tailwind CSS

The industry standard for fast, responsive web apps. The Wine/Gold palette, rounded card layouts, and navigation are all Tailwind tokens.

Database

Supabase (PostgreSQL)

Used by Instagram and Spotify. Row-Level Security enforces that Winery A can never see Winery B's data — enforced at the database layer, not just the application.

Payments

Stripe

Powers both winery subscription fees and per-member shipment billing. Handles decline logic, card updates, and fraud detection. Vinifera stores no card data.

Email

Resend

Transactional email delivery with DKIM/SPF authentication so pre-shipment and payment decline messages reach inboxes, not spam folders.

Hosting

Cloudflare Pages

Production infrastructure used by Shopify and Discord. 330+ global data centers. 99.99% uptime commitment. Not a prototyping environment.

Compliance

ShipCompliant

Industry-standard alcohol shipping compliance API. Verifies state-by-state legality, calculates tax, and generates compliance reports for every shipment.

Monitoring

PostHog + Sentry

PostHog tracks how operators use the product. Sentry captures software errors the moment they occur and alerts the dev team before customers notice.

Authentication

Supabase Auth

JWT-based sessions with magic-link for members and password/OAuth for staff. Two separate auth surfaces — admin portal and member portal — with different security models.

Part 5

What Comes First — The Near-Term Build Plan

Vinifera is built in phases. Build one complete, working slice of the product. Verify it against real use. Then build the next slice on top of it. This approach is faster, more reliable, and less risky than building all thirteen modules in parallel and hoping they integrate correctly on the day of release.

Weeks 1–6 · Active

The Foundation

Secure staff login, magic-link member login, multi-tenant organization architecture, and Stripe subscription billing. No wine club features yet — getting the infrastructure correct before any club features exist is what prevents costly rewrites later.

Weeks 7–16 · Critical

The Core Club Loop

Member management, club tier configuration, release scheduling, Stripe billing for shipments, payment decline recovery, shipping label generation, and CSV migration import. Exit criterion: one real winery adds ten members, creates a release, charges them via Stripe, generates labels, and marks shipments complete. The money moves. The wine ships.

Why two phases before any AI or analytics? Every other feature depends on real member behavioral data accumulated through real club releases. Building analytics before any winery has processed a real release produces analytics with no data to analyze.

Part 6

What Comes Next — Future Releases

Once the core club loop is stable and operating for real wineries, the build expands into the features that set Vinifera apart from every existing platform.

Months 5–7

Retention & Communications

Email automation, AI churn risk scoring (rules-based first, then ML), the cancel-flow retention tool — a structured sequence offering pause, downgrade, or swap before any cancellation completes — and the full loyalty program. No major wine club platform builds cancel-flow retention natively. Vinifera makes it standard.

Months 8–12

Analytics & Growth Intelligence

Full analytics module, ML-assisted churn scoring (75–85% target accuracy, competitive with Commerce7's June 2026 specification), peer benchmarking for Estate-tier customers, and ShipCompliant integration for multi-state compliance at production scale.

Year 2

Scale & Integrations

Full bidirectional Klaviyo sync connecting churn risk scores to audience segments, QuickBooks revenue sync, Avalara tax, Meta Conversions API, multi-brand tenancy, white-label member portals, and a Capacitor.js mobile wrapper for push notification support.

Part 7

The Business Case in Brief

Vine
$149/mo

Up to 250 members. Core club processing, billing, member management, and member portal.

Estate
$749/mo

Unlimited members. Adds cancel-flow, audit logging, peer benchmarking, and dedicated support.

Reserve
$1,500+/mo

Multi-brand estates and white-label deployments. Dedicated infrastructure and custom development.

Growth Milestones

M6
5 customers · $18.5K ARR
M12
15 customers · $46.6K ARR
M18
40 customers · $182.9K ARR
M24
100 customers · $483.5K ARR
M36
250 customers · $1.29M ARR

Gross margins: Infrastructure margins run 79% (Vine) to 93% (Estate) — consistent with best-in-class vertical SaaS benchmarks. Break-even on infrastructure alone requires 2 customers. Break-even covering a full developer and founder salary of $6K/month requires 34 customers. The platform becomes profitable at 100 customers (Month 24).

At $1.29M ARR (Month 36), Vinifera enters acquisition-ready territory. Vertical SaaS at this scale trades at 3–8× ARR — implying a valuation range of $3.9M–$10.3M. Commerce7, WineDirect, or a wine-tech private equity roll-up represent the natural acquisition paths.

Part 8

Who Is Building This

Vinifera is designed, architected, and deployed by EdStratum Labs — a boutique AI and product engineering firm built on a specific conviction: production-grade software rests on verifiable evidence, not hype.

EdStratum Labs

EdStratum Labs delivers AI implementation and full-stack product development for EdTech platforms and growth-stage SaaS organizations. The founder leads every engagement personally — no handoff to a junior team after the initial pitch. That model enforces a quality constraint. Every technical recommendation the firm makes stems from direct, verifiable experience building and shipping production systems.

The firm's name reflects its operating philosophy. A stratum is a distinct geological layer — each one deposited with precision, each one load-bearing for what comes above it. Production software works the same way: clean data architecture first, then solid application logic, then intelligence on top. Skip a layer, and the structure above it fails.

EdStratum Labs is the developer, architect, and deployment owner for Vinifera. Every product decision, technical decision, and roadmap sequencing described in this guide originates from the firm's engagement with this project.

A Final Word

Vinifera is not a concept. It is not a slide deck. It is a working prototype — built, tested across mobile and desktop devices, and already demonstrating every major workflow a wine club operator needs. The foundation beneath it is a production-grade technology stack chosen for durability, cost efficiency, and maintainability by a single founding team.

The market for this product exists, is documented, and is underserved in specific and measurable ways. The build plan sequences execution to reduce risk: prove the payment loop before building the analytics layer, prove the retention tools before building the benchmarking engine. Each phase delivers a working product. Each phase earns the right to build the next one.

That is how production software is actually built. EdStratum Labs builds it that way by practice, and Vinifera reflects that standard from its first line of code.
